What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered that the signal from the coolant temperature sensor is faulty or unreasonable. The cause is most often poor contact at the connections, but the sensor may also be damaged.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Damaged engine coolant temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check the connectors to the coolant temperature sensor and the control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the sensor's signal wire does not lose contact when you move the wiring
- 3If the connectors are sound and the fault remains, have a workshop replace the coolant temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
