ECM-0190
VOLVO
ECM-0190 - Fuel pressure sensor. Faulty signal
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS40 (1996–2004), V40 (1996–2004)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The control module monitors the signal from the fuel pressure sensor and logs a fault when it is too high or too low. Air trapped in the fuel supply can also cause the code to be set. The fault can cause the engine to misfire or fail to start, and the lamp comes on.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire, or signal wire shorted to supply voltage or ground
- Open circuit or short in the ground or power supply wire
- Faulty fuel pressure sensor
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Air in the fuel supply
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at the fuel pressure sensor is fully engaged and free from oxidation
- 3The fuel system is under high pressure and can cause injury. Have a workshop make pressure checks and check for air in the fuel supply
- 4With the connector unplugged, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no connection to ground or supply voltage
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fuel pressure in live data while starting the engine. A value that jumps or is missing points to the sensor or wiring
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment decide whether the fuel pressure sensor should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice3
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
- Engine does not start
- Engine misfires
What the fault can affect2
- The low-pressure fuel pump is switched off if fuel pressure becomes too high
- The engine cannot run in ultra-lean mode
