What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module compares the fuel pressure in the fuel rail with the pressure it requests and logs a fault when they do not match. Causes can be poor contact at the pressure control valve or sensor, a blocked fuel filter, or a damaged pump, valve or sensor. The fault can make the car feel weak, and engine torque may be limited.

    Possible causes

    • Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the fuel pressure control valve connections
    • Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the fuel pressure sensor connections
    • Blocked fuel filter
    • Damaged fuel pressure sensor
    • Damaged fuel pump
    • Damaged fuel pressure control valve

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check that the connectors to the fuel pressure sensor and pressure control valve are fully engaged and free from oxidation
    3. 3The fuel system runs at very high pressure and can cause injury. Have a workshop check the pump, pressure control valve and injectors
    4. 4Check the fuel filter for clogging; a worn filter should be replaced by a workshop
    5. 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read fuel pressure in live data with the engine running. A pressure that does not follow the requested value points to the fault
    6. 6If the fault returns after clearing and a road test, have a workshop decide whether the fuel pressure sensor needs replacing

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Car drives poorly and lacks power
    • Text message and warning symbol in the display

    What the fault can affect1

    • Engine torque may be limited

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
