What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module drives the fuel injectors through a high-output stage and checks how quickly they discharge. Although the code is named signal missing, it is set when the discharge time is outside the permitted range. Causes can be a blocked fuel return line, loose or corroded connections, an open or shorted signal wire, or a damaged injector.

    Possible causes

    • Blocked return line from the injectors
    • Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
    • Open circuit in the signal wire
    • Signal wire shorted to ground or supply voltage
    • Damaged injector

    What you can do

    1. 1If other fault codes for the injectors are stored, deal with those first
    2. 2Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    3. 3Check all injector connectors: are they fully engaged, and free from oxidation?
    4. 4Follow the wiring to the injectors and look for breaks, chafing and shorts to ground
    5. 5If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the injector values in live data. An injector that clearly differs from the others points to the fault
    6. 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check that the fuel return line is not blocked and decide whether an injector needs replacing

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Car drives poorly and lacks power
    • Text message and warning symbol in the display

    What the fault can affect2

    • Engine speed may be limited
    • The car goes into limp-home mode

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
