What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module compares the actual boost pressure with the value it calculates and logs a fault when they differ. The boost is too high according to the fault code. Causes are leaking or blocked hoses at the turbocharger and the control valve, a damaged vacuum regulator, or a damaged turbocharger control valve.

    Possible causes

    • Leaking or blocked hoses to the turbocharger or the control valve
    • Damaged vacuum regulator
    • Damaged turbocharger control valve

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check that the hoses to the turbocharger and control valve are correctly fitted and intact, without cracks or blockage
    3. 3With the engine running, listen for leaking air around the hoses; a hissing sound points to the leak
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read boost pressure in live data as the accelerator is pressed and compare it with the value the control module calculates
    5. 5Have a workshop with a vacuum pump check the vacuum regulator and the function of the turbocharger control valve
    6. 6If the fault remains, have a workshop decide whether the vacuum regulator or the control valve should be replaced

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
