What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module monitors the boost pressure sensor signal and compares boost pressure with the atmospheric pressure that it measures itself. The code is set when the signal is too low, or when the two pressures differ clearly with the ignition on. The cause is a signal wire shorted to ground or a damaged boost pressure sensor.

    Possible causes

    • Signal wire shorted to ground
    • Damaged boost pressure sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check the boost pressure sensor connector for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
    3. 3With the engine off, compare boost and atmospheric pressure in live data. If they roughly agree, the connector is probably the fault
    4. 4With the connector unplugged, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no connection to ground (the body)
    5. 5If the fault returns after a road test, have a workshop decide whether the boost pressure sensor should be replaced

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally

    What the fault can affect1

    • A calculated boost pressure is used instead

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
