What does this fault code mean?
The control module watches the boost sensor reading and checks it against the atmospheric pressure it measures itself. The fault is logged when the signal is too high, or when boost and atmospheric pressure differ clearly with the ignition on. Causes are poor contact, a break in the signal or supply wire, a short to voltage, or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose connection in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the power supply
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the boost pressure sensor connector: is it fully engaged and free from moisture and oxidation?
- 3Follow the signal and supply wires from the sensor and look for breaks and chafing
- 4With the ignition on and the connector unplugged, use a multimeter to see whether the signal wire picks up voltage. If it does, it is shorted to plus
- 5If the fault returns after a road test, have a workshop decide whether the boost pressure sensor should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated boost pressure is used instead
