VOLVO
ECM-0268 - Injector cyl 3. Signal too high
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
According to the engine control module, the cylinder 3 injector sends a value that is too high, and the control module logs this as a fault. A signal wire that has come into contact with supply voltage, or a damaged valve, may be the cause. The lamp comes on, but the fault has no other consequences for the car.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged injector, cylinder 3
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector to the cylinder 3 injector is fully engaged and free from oxidation
- 3With the ignition on and the connector unplugged, use a multimeter to see whether the signal wire picks up voltage
- 4Follow the signal wire to cylinder 3 and look for chafing and places where it may have touched a live wire
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, see whether the cylinder 3 injector value in live data differs from the others
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop decide whether the injector should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
