System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered that the injector for cylinder 4 gives too high a signal and treats this as a fault. The wire may have come into contact with voltage, or the injector may be damaged. The lamp comes on, but the fault has no other consequences for the car.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged injector, cylinder 4
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at the cylinder 4 injector is fully engaged and free from oxidation
- 3With the ignition on and the connector unplugged, use a multimeter to see whether the signal wire picks up voltage
- 4Follow the signal wire to cylinder 4 and look for chafing and places where it may have touched a live wire
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, see whether the cylinder 4 injector value in live data differs from the others
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop decide whether the injector should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
