What does this fault code mean?

The control module compares the actual boost pressure with the calculated value and logs a fault when boost is too low. Causes can be leaks or blockages in the intake system and hoses, or faults in the control of the turbo control valve. The fault can make the car perform worse, and the warning lamp may behave abnormally.

    Possible causes

    • Loose, oxidized or worn connections in the wiring harness
    • Air leak in the intake system
    • Blocked intake system
    • Leaking or blocked hoses to the turbocharger and the control valve
    • Damaged turbocharger control valve
    • Pinched or damaged vacuum hose

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check that the intake system is free from blockages and that the hoses are neither pinched nor cracked
    3. 3With the engine running, listen for air leaks at the hoses and joints
    4. 4Check that the connector at the turbo control valve is fully engaged and free from oxidation
    5. 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read boost pressure in live data as the accelerator is pressed and see whether it rises
    6. 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with a vacuum pump check the vacuum regulator and the turbo control valve

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
    • Car drives poorly and lacks power

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
