What does this fault code mean?
On the diesel engine, the engine control module checks the voltage signal from the control valve in the air intake inlet and logs a fault when the signal is too low. The cause may be poor contact, a break or a short to ground in the signal wire, or a damaged control valve.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged control valve at the air intake inlet
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 2Check the connector at the intake air control valve: is it fully engaged and free from oxidation?
- 3Follow the signal wire to the control valve and look for breaks, chafing and pinched sections
- 4With the connector unplugged, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no connection to ground (the body)
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the control valve signal in live data with the engine running and see whether the value follows when the valve is activated
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop decide whether the control valve should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
