What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named position sensor for intake air flow, it concerns the function of the EGR valve. The engine control module carries out an adaptation of the EGR valve when needed and logs a fault when the adaptation value falls outside a predefined range. Causes are a signal wire shorted to ground, or a damaged position sensor or EGR valve.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2With the connector unplugged, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the EGR valve position sensor has no connection to ground (the body)
- 3Follow the wire from the EGR valve and look for chafing, pinched sections and loose clips
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the EGR valve position in live data with the engine running and see whether it follows as the engine revs
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment decide whether the EGR valve or the position sensor should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- No exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control
