What does this fault code mean?
The control module monitors the EGR valve function and sets the fault if the signal from the position sensor is too high. The causes may be poor contact in the connections, an open circuit in the supply or signal wire, a signal wire shorted to voltage, or a damaged EGR valve.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact in the connections
- Open circuit in the supply or signal wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition and check the connections to the EGR valve for poor contact, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Look for chafing on the signal wire near the EGR valve, and use a multimeter to check that it is not shorted to voltage
- 3Also use a multimeter to check that the supply to the position sensor has no open circuit
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the EGR position sensor value in live data at idle and see whether it stays consistently high
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the EGR valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
