What does this fault code mean?
The control module monitors the function of the EGR valve. A fault in the valve or its wiring that leads to incorrect EGR control produces this code. It is only set, however, when a related EGR fault has already been recorded and the control module's built-in routine for freeing a stuck valve has failed.
Possible causes
- Bad contact, resistance or oxidation in the EGR valve connectors
- Dirt or soot making the EGR valve stick
- Open circuit in the cable to the EGR valve
- Cable to the EGR valve shorted to ground or voltage
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition and check the EGR valve connectors for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2The valve can stick because of soot and dirt. Look for this and have a workshop decide whether it should be cleaned or replaced
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the EGR valve motor have no open circuit and are not shorted to ground or voltage
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the valve and its wiring
