What does this fault code mean?
The control module monitors the signal to the EVAP valve, which controls the evaporative system's venting of fuel vapour from the fuel tank. If the signal is too low while the engine runs, or the control to the valve is faulty, the fault is set. The fault may lie in the connectors, the wiring or the valve.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connectors
- Open circuit or short to ground in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the supply wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Faulty or damaged EVAP valve
- Damaged engine control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuse for the circuit is intact. If the fuse has gone, check for a short to ground before fitting a new one
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EVAP valve and listen for it to click
- 3Switch off the ignition and inspect the valve plug for poor contact and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the valve has no open circuit and is not shorted to ground or voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment measure the valve resistance and replace the valve if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
