Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The control module receives no signal from the EVAP valve in the evaporative emission system. The cause is an open circuit in the signal wire or the supply wire to the valve. Without a signal, the control module cannot monitor how the valve is working.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the EVAP valve
- Open circuit in the supply wire to the EVAP valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuse for the circuit is intact. Their locations are shown in the instruction manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Switch off the ignition and unplug the EVAP valve connector. Check the connector for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal and supply wires to the valve have no open circuit
- 4Look for chafed wires to the EVAP valve, especially where they run near mounting points and moving parts
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the valve and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
