Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the EVAP valve. The fault is set when the control module registers a fault in the control of the valve, here in the form of a signal that is too low. The fault may lie in the connector or in the wire that is shorted to ground.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault code, erase it and road-test to see whether it returns
- 2Switch off the ignition and check the connector to the EVAP valve for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the valve is not shorted to ground
- 4Look for chafing on the signal wire where it runs near the body or any earthed metal part
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the valve and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
