What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the EGR control function. A fault in the EGR valve or its wiring that leads to incorrect EGR control sets the code. It may be noticed as reduced performance, and engine torque may be limited.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, resistance or oxidation at the EGR valve terminals
- The EGR valve sticks because of dirt or carbon deposits
- Open circuit in the cable to the EGR valve
- Cable to the EGR valve shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault code, erase it and road-test to see whether it returns
- 2Look at the EGR valve for dirt and soot. If it sticks, the code can be set, and a workshop can decide whether it should be cleaned or replaced
- 3Switch off the ignition and check the EGR valve connectors for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the valve has no open circuit and is not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the valve and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor performance and lack of power
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
