This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the vehicle speed sensor signal. It is logged first by the brake module (BCM) and only afterwards by the engine module, so start the search in the brake module. The cause is an open circuit in the signal wire, or the wire being shorted to ground or voltage.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground or voltage
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in the brake control module (BCM) first and deal with them
- 2Erase the engine control module code only after the BCM fault has been fixed
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the speed sensor has no open circuit and is not shorted to ground or voltage
- 4Because the fault starts in the brake control module, a safety function, have a workshop check the brake module and the ABS system
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the speed signal
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
