What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the actual idle speed and sets the code when the idle speed is higher than expected. The fault is only set once the control module's test has started and the conditions are met. The cause lies in the air or fuel system, for example air leakage or blockages.
Possible causes
- Air leakage in the air or fuel system
- Blockages in the air or fuel system
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault code, erase it and road-test at idle to see whether it returns
- 2Look for air leaks in the intake hoses and at the connections, since a leak can raise the idle speed
- 3Check that the throttle body is clean and moves freely
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the idle speed in live data and see whether it stays high even when the engine is warm
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the air and fuel systems
Symptoms you may notice2
- Uneven idle
- High idle speed
