What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the battery voltage and sets the fault when the voltage is too low. The causes may be poor contact in the connections, a poor battery, or a charging system that is not working. A low battery makes the engine crank slowly and hard to start.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Faulty charging system
- Poor battery
What you can do
- 1Check the condition of the battery and that the charging works, since a weak battery gives low voltage
- 2Switch off the ignition and check the battery terminals and connections for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the battery voltage in live data with the engine running and check that it is steady
- 4Check the system relay connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the charging system and the system relay
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
