What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) has logged an internal fault in its own functions, so the fault lies in the module. Engine torque or speed may be limited while the fault is present. The software is checked first, since an old version can cause the fault. If the fault remains, the control module is damaged.

    Possible causes

    • Damaged engine control module (ECM)
    • Outdated or faulty software in the engine control module

    What you can do

    1. 1Have a workshop check that the engine control module has the latest available software; software is loaded using workshop equipment
    2. 2Check the battery condition and that the battery terminals are tight, since voltage dips can affect the engine control module
    3. 3If the fault remains after the software check, the engine control module is the likely cause and a workshop should replace it

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
    • The car feels sluggish or lacks power
    • Malfunction indicator lamp (Check engine) lit or behaving abnormally

    What the fault can affect2

    • Engine torque may be limited
    • Engine speed may be limited

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
