What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has detected an internal fault, which means the fault is in the module itself. Engine torque and speed may be limited while the fault remains. The fault may be permanent, or it may have occurred earlier and no longer be present.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
- Old software in the engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code and see whether it is still present after a road test
- 2Ask a workshop to check whether the engine control module has the latest software and reload it if needed
- 3Check the battery and that its terminals are tight, since voltage disturbances can cause the fault
- 4If the fault remains after the software check, the engine control module is the likely cause and a workshop should replace it
Symptoms you may notice3
- Yellow warning symbol and message in the display
- Poor performance or the engine lacks power
- Malfunction indicator lamp (Check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque is limited
- Engine speed is limited
