What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has two internal processors that compare the input signals for vehicle speed, accelerator pedal position and brake pedal position. If those signals differ, the code is set, and the fault may then lie in the control module or in one of the signals. A failed software download can also cause the code. Engine torque and speed are limited while the fault remains.
Possible causes
- Input signals for vehicle speed, accelerator pedal or brake pedal do not agree
- Failed or incomplete software download to the engine control module
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the accelerator and brake pedals move freely and are not held back by a mat or object
- 2Check the battery condition and that the terminals are tight, since voltage disturbances can cause faults in the engine control module
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, watch vehicle speed, accelerator position and brake pedal position in live data while driving; the values should match how the car is moving
- 4Have a workshop check that the engine control module has the latest software and reload it if the earlier download failed
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, the engine control module is probably damaged and a workshop should replace it
Symptoms you may notice3
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- Poor performance or the car lacks power
- Malfunction indicator lamp lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque is limited
- Engine speed is limited
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
