What does this fault code mean?
Internal monitoring in the engine control module has registered an internal fault and set the code, so the fault is in the module itself. It may show as a warning message, poor performance or the malfunction indicator lamp coming on. Engine torque and speed are limited while the fault is present. The software is checked first, and the module is replaced if the fault persists.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code and see whether it returns after a road test
- 2Have a workshop look over the engine control module software and reload it if it is not up to date
- 3Check the battery and its terminals, since voltage disturbances can cause the fault
- 4If the fault persists after the software check, the engine control module is damaged and a workshop should replace it
Symptoms you may notice3
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- Poor performance or the car lacks power
- Malfunction indicator lamp (Check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect2
