What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the two signals from the accelerator pedal position sensor: the PWM signal, which goes directly to the control module, and the analog signal, which goes via the central electronic module (CEM). If either signal disagrees with the value the ECM has calculated, the code is set. The fault can cause poor performance and an engine speed limit.
Possible causes
- Loose connections, contact resistance or oxidation at the terminals
- Open circuit or short circuit to earth in the signal cable
- Open circuit in the supply or earth lead to the sensor
- Low battery voltage
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, press the accelerator slowly down and up and check in live data that both the PWM and analog values follow the pedal smoothly, without jumps
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read out the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) and remedy them first, since the analog signal passes through the CEM
- 3Check the sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Check that the battery is in good condition and that its terminals are tight, since low voltage can cause the fault
- 5With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no open circuit or short to earth
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor performance or the car lacks power
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Engine speed is limited
