What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the charging voltage and the function of the generator. If the generator gives a signal that is faulty or outside the permitted range, the code is set. The fault may lie in the generator, the charge regulator or the connectors, and it can show up as power supply problems in the car.
Possible causes
- Mechanical fault in the generator
- Damaged charge regulator
What you can do
- 1Check the generator connector for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Check that the drive belt is correctly fitted and that the generator is not noisy or behaving abnormally
- 3Check the signal wire to the generator for loose connections and breaks
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the charging voltage in live data with the engine running; it should be steady and respond to changes in electrical load
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the generator and charge regulator and replace them if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- Power supply problems in the car
