What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) keeps track of the charging voltage and generator function. If the signal from the generator is too low, the code is set. The cause may be poor connections, a break in the signal wire or a damaged charge regulator, and the fault can appear as power supply problems in the car.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the generator terminals
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Damaged charge regulator
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, unplug the generator connector and check that its terminals are tight and free from oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check the signal wire for an open circuit and for a short to earth
- 3Check that the drive belt is correctly fitted and that the generator is not mechanically damaged
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, the charge regulator is a likely cause; a workshop should assess it and replace it if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- Power supply problems in the car
