What does this fault code mean?
The ECM supervises the charging voltage and how the generator works. When the generator signal is too high, the fault is treated as an error and the code is set. The cause may be a signal wire shorted to supply voltage or a damaged charge regulator, which can show up as power supply problems.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged charge regulator
What you can do
- 1Check that the generator works mechanically and is not damaged, and that the drive belt is correctly fitted
- 2Check the signal wire to the generator for chafing that could let it touch a live supply wire
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with supply voltage
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, the charge regulator is a likely cause; a workshop should assess it and replace it
Symptoms you may notice1
- Charging or power supply problems
