What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the cooling fan's operation. If the PWM signal to the fan is too high, the code is set. The cause may be a signal wire shorted to voltage, or a damaged fan. The engine may then overheat, or the fan may run continuously.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to voltage
- Damaged cooling fan
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check that the fan blades are not blocked, since this can set the code
- 2Inspect the signal wire to the fan for chafing and for short circuits to voltage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with supply voltage
- 4If the fault remains, a workshop should decide whether the fan needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine runs hot or overheats
- The fan keeps running
