ECM-0704
VOLVO
ECM-0704 - Clutch pedal position sensor. Faulty signal
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the clutch pedal sensor and sets the code when the signal from it is faulty. The code indicates a fault in another control module, so fix that fault first; the code can be cleared once it is done. The clutch pedal sensor and its signal wire may also be the cause.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged clutch pedal sensor
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the other control modules and remedy them first, since this code may be a follow-on fault
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, watch the clutch pedal position in live data while pressing and releasing the pedal; the value should follow the pedal
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the clutch pedal sensor has no contact with supply voltage
- 4Clear the code only after the root fault is remedied, then road test the car and see whether it returns
- 5If it returns, the clutch pedal sensor is probably damaged; a workshop should decide whether to replace it
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
