What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares the outside temperature reading from the sensor in the left door mirror with the intake air temperature and the engine coolant temperature. After the engine has cooled down properly from operating temperature, the code is set if the values differ too much. The fault may come from poor contact or a defective sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Defective outside temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check the connectors at the engine control module and at the outside temperature sensor in the left mirror for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read the outside temperature with the ignition on and compare it with the actual outside temperature; the two should roughly agree
- 3If the reading is correct once the connectors are remedied, the fault was poor contact; if the fault remains, the sensor is probably defective and a workshop should replace it
