What does this fault code mean?
During the same operating cycle the engine control module has repeatedly lost the signal from the intake air temperature sensor, more often than allowed. The fault is intermittent, meaning the signal has dropped out and then returned. It is checked while driving and usually goes unnoticed by the driver.
Possible causes
- Open circuit or short circuit to ground in the signal wire
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the signal wire
- Damaged intake air temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the intake air temperature sensor connector is secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check the signal wire for an open circuit and a short circuit to ground
- 4Use a multimeter to check the signal wire for a short circuit to supply voltage
- 5If the fault remains with a clean connector and an intact wire, have a workshop check the sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
