What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has intermittently registered a fault on the cable carrying the reading from the needle lift sensor, the sensor that detects when the injector needle lifts. The signal has at times been too low or dropped out, which can make the engine feel powerless. The fault is intermittent and may not be present right now.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Defective needle lift sensor
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the needle lift sensor connector for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Inspect the cable to the needle lift sensor for chafing and pinching
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not broken and has no contact with ground or voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the needle lift sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp comes on
- The engine feels powerless
What the fault can affect1
- The engine torque is limited
