What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered that the coolant temperature sensor reading has dropped out too often during the same operating cycle. The fault is intermittent and most often sits in the connector, which may have play, contact resistance or oxidation. It is normally not noticed while driving.
Possible causes
- Play, contact resistance or oxidation in the sensor connector
- Temporary breaks in the sensor caused by vibration or temperature changes
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Unplug the engine temperature sensor connector and check it for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Make sure the connector clicks and locks fully when reconnected
- 4If the connector is clean and secure but the fault returns, the engine temperature sensor can be replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
