What does this fault code mean?
The exhaust temperature has been too low for the oxygen sensors to be heated, so their heating cannot be switched on. The sensors need heat to give a usable signal, and the code is set when the heating cannot be activated. The code is checked while the engine is running.
Possible causes
- A test of exhaust gas recirculation was run before the engine had reached operating temperature
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test once the engine is warm
- 2If the code was set after a test or short drive on a cold engine, it is probably harmless
- 3If the code returns during normal driving, have a workshop check the oxygen sensors and their heating
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
