What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found a deviation in the mass air flow sensor signal: the measured air quantity does not agree with the calculated one. The fault can cause uneven idling together with the warning lamp. The cause may be a leak in the intake, a contaminated throttle body, a blockage or the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Air leakage in the intake system
- Contaminated throttle body
- Blocked intake system
- Damaged mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the mass air flow sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Check the intake for leaks, especially the hoses between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body
- 3Look inside the throttle body for contamination, and clean it if needed, since dirt reduces the air flow to the engine
- 4Clear the code and road test to see whether it returns
- 5If no fault is found and the fault remains, a new mass air flow sensor can be tried
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp comes on
- Idle is uneven
