What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found that the air mass correction value is excessive, while the long-term fuel trim lies outside a set range. This indicates that the measured air quantity does not agree with the calculated one. Several functions are switched off or calculated instead.
Possible causes
- Oxidation and contact resistance at the connectors of the air meter
- Air leakage in the intake system
- Blocked intake system
- Damaged mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the mass air flow sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation, and clean the contacts if needed
- 2Check the intake for leaks, especially the hoses between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle unit
- 3Check whether the throttle body is dirty, since contaminants disturb the air flow
- 4Clear the code and road test to see whether it returns
- 5If nothing wrong is found, a new mass air flow sensor can be tried
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp comes on
What the fault can affect3
- Boost pressure and air mass are calculated instead of measured
- Rear oxygen sensor control is switched off
- Misfire diagnostics are switched off
