What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal from the boost pressure sensor. If the signal stays below a level the engine control considers too low for a while, the fault is stored. It can limit boost pressure, which is mainly noticed as reduced performance.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance or oxidation at the connections
    • Signal wire shorted to ground
    • Damaged boost pressure sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check that the boost pressure sensor connector is fully seated and free from oxidation
    3. 3Check the signal wire for chafing and pinch damage; with a multimeter, check whether it has contact with ground (the body)
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read boost pressure in live data at idle and under throttle, and check that the value follows the throttle smoothly without sudden jumps
    5. 5If the wiring looks fine: have a workshop check the sensor

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Engine warning lamp comes on
    • Noticeably reduced performance

    What the fault can affect1

    • Boost pressure is limited

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
