What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent, meaning it has occurred but does not necessarily remain present right now. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the MAF sensor circuit, and the fault is set when the circuit is shorted to ground or voltage, or when it has an open circuit.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged MAF sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Move and flex the MAF wiring with the ignition on and see whether the fault code or the signal changes
- 3Check that the MAF sensor and control module connectors are free from contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Check the harness for chafing, pinch damage and loose clips
- 5With a multimeter, check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground or voltage and has no open circuit
- 6If the wiring and connectors look fine: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the MAF sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp comes on
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control uses a value calculated from engine speed and intake manifold pressure
