What does this fault code mean?
The ECM watches both the camshaft sensor and the flywheel sensor, and needs their signals to know which cylinder is in the right position. The fault is set when the synchronization signal is missing. It can only be detected when the module is able to check the sensors and the conditions for the check are met.
Possible causes
- Damaged camshaft sensor
- Damaged flywheel sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the camshaft sensor and flywheel sensor connectors are free from contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check that the sensors are firmly fitted and that their wiring has no chafing or pinch damage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data that both the camshaft sensor and the flywheel sensor give a signal when the engine runs
- 5If the connectors and wiring are fine: have a workshop check the sensors with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp comes on
