What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the intake air temperature sensor signal. The fault is set when the signal corresponds to a temperature that is too low. The module then uses a predefined value instead, and two functions are switched off.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections to the intake air temperature sensor
- Damaged intake air temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the boost pressure sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation, since the intake air temperature sensor is built into it
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: if intake air temperature in live data becomes reasonable once the connector is cleaned, poor contact was likely the cause
- 4If the fault returns after clearing and a test drive: have a workshop try a new boost pressure sensor
- 5If nothing else is found and the fault persists: have a workshop replace the intake air temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine warning lamp comes on
- Reduced performance
What the fault can affect2
- A predefined intake air temperature value is used
- Catalyst warm-up and the idle control diagnosis are switched off
