What does this fault code mean?
The ECM watches the temperature sensor signal inside the MAF sensor. The fault is set when that signal is faulty. The cause can be connections, wiring or the sensor inside the MAF sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged intake air temperature sensor inside the MAF sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the MAF sensor connections for contact resistance, play and oxidation
- 3Check the wiring to the MAF sensor for breaks, chafing and shorts to voltage or ground
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal wire is not shorted to voltage or ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read air mass in live data and check that it rises as engine speed rises
- 6If the connections and wiring are fine: have a workshop check the MAF sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- Engine warning lamp comes on
- A text message appears in the display
- Reduced performance
What the fault can affect2
- A calculated value is used instead of the sensor reading
- Engine torque may be limited
