What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the supply voltage to the MAF sensor and sets the fault when it is incorrect. The cause can be a weak battery, a fault in the charging system or a short in the wiring. The fault can be set by either a too high or a too low signal.
Possible causes
- Fault in the charging system
- Damaged MAF sensor
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the battery condition and that the charging system works, since an incorrect supply voltage can cause the fault
- 3Check the MAF sensor connections for contact resistance, play and oxidation
- 4With a multimeter, check that the wire to the MAF sensor is not shorted to ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read air mass in live data with the engine running and check that it rises when the accelerator pedal is pressed
- 6If the battery and connectors are fine: have a workshop check the supply to the MAF sensor
