What does this fault code mean?
The ECM watches the reading from the temperature sensor inside the MAF sensor. The fault is set when that signal is faulty. Although the code is labelled too low, a too high signal from a short to voltage can also set it.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged intake air temperature sensor inside the MAF sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the MAF sensor connector for contact resistance, play and oxidation
- 3Check the wiring to the MAF sensor for a short to ground, since it can give too low a signal
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal wire is not shorted to voltage or ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the temperature in live data and check that it is reasonable and follows engine warm-up
- 6If the connection and wiring are fine: have a workshop check the MAF sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp comes on
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control uses a calculated value instead of the sensor
