What does this fault code mean?
The fault is set when the outside air temperature sensor is shorted to voltage, and also when the central electronics module (CEM) judges the signal to be too low. The signal reaches the engine control module (ECM) over the CAN bus.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged outside air temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1First read the fault codes in the central electronics module (CEM) and fix them
- 2Check the wiring and connectors to the outside air temperature sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the outside temperature in live data with the ignition on; if it becomes reasonable once the connector is cleaned, poor contact was the likely cause
- 4The sensor may have been damaged by the signal wire being shorted to voltage; check the wiring before replacing the sensor
- 5If the wiring is fault-free but the fault remains: have a workshop measure the sensor's resistance and replace it if needed
Symptoms you may notice3
- Engine warning lamp comes on
- Starting problems, the engine cranks slowly
- The outside temperature gauge shows wrong values or does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The engine uses the value from the intake air temperature sensor
