What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously compares the temperature from the front and rear catalytic converter temperature sensors. The fault is set if the difference between them becomes too large, or if the front sensor signal rises too quickly after start.
Possible causes
- Play, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections to either temperature sensor
- Open circuit or short in the wiring to either temperature sensor
- Damaged temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors of the front and rear temperature sensors for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check the wiring to the temperature sensors for breaks and shorts
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the temperatures from the two sensors in live data with the engine running; the difference should be small after a short drive
- 5If the wiring is fault-free: have a workshop check the temperature sensors
