What does this fault code mean?
The outside air temperature is sent from the central electronics module (CEM) to the engine control module (ECM) over CAN. If the signal is judged to lie above its normal range, the fault is set in the engine control module, and the outside temperature may then display incorrectly on the gauge.
Possible causes
- Damaged outside air temperature sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1First read the fault codes in the central electronics module (CEM) and fix them
- 2Check the outside air temperature sensor connector and wire for a short to ground
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the outside temperature in live data with the surroundings after the car has stood still for a while
- 4If the wiring is fault-free: have a workshop check the outside air temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- Hard starting
- The outside temperature is shown incorrectly on the gauge
What the fault can affect1
- The intake air temperature is used instead of the outside air temperature
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
