What does this fault code mean?
At start, the engine control module (ECM) stores the outside, intake and engine temperature values and compares them. If the outside temperature is too high compared with the other values, it is treated as a fault and the fault is set.
Possible causes
- Damaged outside air temperature sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the outside air temperature sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: after a long rest, compare the outside air temperature in live data with the intake and engine temperatures; they should be close
- 4If the connector and sensor are fine: have a workshop check the outside air temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The outside temperature is shown too high on the gauge
What the fault can affect1
- The outside air temperature is instead calculated from a model
