What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls the alternator using information from the CAN network, so that the battery gets a suitable charge. The fault is set when the information needed for that control is missing from the CAN network, and the cause lies in the central electronics module (CEM).
Possible causes
- The cause lies in the central electronics module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1First read the fault codes in the central electronics module (CEM) and fix them
- 2Clear the fault code in the CEM once it has been fixed, then clear this fault code in the engine control module
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: check whether the CEM shows its own fault code for the alternator or the charging
- 4If the fault remains after the CEM check: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the CAN communication to the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The “Generator not charging” warning lamp lights with the engine running
